Cycling joy that grows with your child

Let your child discover the freedom of two wheels with a bike that always fits perfectly. A simple and sustainable path to more movement, play, and adventure.

Why rent a children's bike?

Children grow quickly and their cycling needs change at the same pace. Constantly buying new bikes that fit can become an expensive affair, especially when it comes to quality bikes. But there is a way to ensure that your child always has a bike of the right size without it becoming too expensive. By renting from Parently, you can easily switch to a larger bike when needed, without having to compromise on either size or quality.

Benefits of renting a children's bike

  • Sustainable

By reusing bicycles, we reduce both waste and the environmental impact caused by the manufacturing of new bikes. It is a more sustainable way to provide children with access to high-quality bicycles without placing unnecessary strain on the environment.

  • Flexible

As your child grows or their needs change, you can at any time easily swap the bike for a larger model that is a better fit. You won't have to worry about buying and selling bikes and can always be sure that your child has the right bike size for a safe and comfortable ride.

  • Affordable

Renting a bike is a cost-effective alternative to buying a new one, especially since children quickly outgrow their bikes. By renting, you get access to a premium bike without the large upfront cost. Even cheaper is renting Pre-Loved bikes – previously used bikes that have been carefully serviced and inspected and can be rented for a slightly lower monthly fee.

Why is the right bike size important?

We understand how it might seem like a good idea to buy a child's bike that is a little too big, thinking that the child will be able to use it for longer. But having a bike of the right size is crucial for both safety and comfort.

If the bike is too big, it can be difficult to control and feel unsafe, especially when starting and stopping. If the child has difficulty reaching the handlebars and can barely touch the ground with their toes when the saddle is in its lowest position, the bike is too big. It is also important not to let the child ride a bike that is too small, as it makes cycling both uncomfortable and inefficient. If the child's knees are too high while pedaling and hit the handlebars, it is time to switch to a larger size.

Choosing a bike of the right size gives the child a safer and more enjoyable cycling experience and makes it easier to develop their skills on two wheels.

Find the right size for the child's bike

The inside leg length is the most important measurement for finding the right bike size for your child. To ensure a good fit, you should compare this measurement with the recommended length for the specific bike model. The child should be able to reach the ground with their feet while sitting on the saddle to feel secure and have control over the bike.

The table provides a general guide for which size may fit your child based on their inside leg length. We recommend that you also check the specific dimensions for the bike model you are interested in. You can find Woom's size guide here.

Why choose a balance bike?

Training wheels have long been a common aid for teaching children to ride a bike, but they can make the transition to a regular bicycle more difficult. Training wheels create a false sense of stability, meaning the child only learns to pedal and steer – but not to balance.

A better alternative is a balance bike, also known as a running bike, which is designed to help the child find their balance from the start. Without pedals, the child uses their feet to push themselves forward, which gradually trains coordination, body control, and motor skills in a natural and playful way. Once balance is mastered, the step to a pedal bike becomes much easier.

Balance bikes are suitable for children from about 18 months to 4 years old and give them a confident and fun start on two wheels.

Safety first

Cycling is a fantastic way for children to move around freely and have fun, but safety always comes first, of course. With the right equipment, you can ensure your child is safe on two wheels, whether they are cycling in the yard, to school, or on bike paths.

  • Helmet – a matter of course

The bicycle helmet is the most important piece of safety gear when your child is cycling. It should sit firmly and comfortably on the head, without being able to slip off or slide backward. The helmet should cover the forehead, the back of the head, and the crown to provide optimal protection. A well-fitting helmet reduces the risk of serious injury in the event of a fall or accident.

  • Better visibility with lights and reflectors

To increase safety in the dark and in bad weather, bike lights and reflectors are important. Front and rear lights make the child more clearly visible, and reflectors on the bike or clothing increase visibility even further. Simple measures that can make a big difference in traffic.

  • Practical accessories for a smooth bike ride

A kickstand makes it easier for the child to park the bike without it tipping over, while a bicycle bell makes it easy to signal one's presence to other road users. A bike lock protects the bike from being stolen and provides peace of mind for both the child and parents when it is parked outdoors.
